As a Senior Library Assistant at GLL, based in Southfields Library, you will be an essential member of a busy community-focused team. You will provide access to a wide variety of collections and resources, including books, public access computers, and local studies reference collections.
Your role will ensure that every visitor to the library is welcomed into a clean, safe, and attractive environment with facilities that keep them wanting to return. You will adapt to the diversity of GLL's visitors and help them discover GLL's vast range of resources and services. Your passion for libraries and community engagement will shine as you assist patrons in exploring everything from new authors to tracking their ancestry, devising and delivering engaging activities for children and families, and helping them find employment opportunities using GLL's IT systems.
What You Need:
- Experience working within libraries (desirable)
- Evidence of making a difference to customers
- Confident IT skills and knowledge
- Excellent numeracy, literacy, and communication skills
- Administration skills
- Experience with Library Management systems (useful)
- Strong focus on customer service
- Passion and personality
- Organizational and efficiency skills
- Customer Service Qualification (desirable)
- Ability to work well in a team
Your Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the team to ensure smooth library operations
- Provide a warm welcome and genuine goodbye to all customers, guiding them for optimum results from their visit
- Devise and deliver imaginative children’s activities, including story and rhyme time
- Follow Safeguarding policies for children and vulnerable adults
- Adhere to Normal and Emergency Operating Procedures and relevant policies
- Engage with customers to understand their needs
- Assist customers with all library inquiries
- Participate fully in training opportunities provided
