Assistant Scientist - Chemistry, Immediate Start

Fera Science is on the lookout for talented graduates to join Fera Science in 2025 to make an invaluable contribution to Fera Science's Food Safety & Biosecurity!

As a graduate, you will begin your career as an assistant scientist where you will work closely with scientists and technical specialists in your area. You will be responsible for preparing and extracting samples from various sources for chemical analysis, contributing to vital commercial research projects on food safety.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare samples ready for analysis using established techniques according to standard operating procedures.
• Extract and clean-up samples in preparation for analysis.
• Follow appropriate quality assurance and safety procedures.
• Maintain laboratory facilities, including daily equipment checks and general housekeeping.
• Log samples onto the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) during busy periods.
• Operate analytical instrumentation such as HPLC.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Graduates with a keen interest in sustainability.
• Scientific qualification, preferably in chemistry.
• Practical IT experience, particularly with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Experience in a laboratory is desirable but not essential.
• Ability to maintain clear written records.
• Self-motivated with strong interpersonal skills.
• A methodical approach and attention to detail.
• Experience within a quality system (e.g., UKAS, GLP) is beneficial.
