About the team:

As a Gateline Assistant, you will work with the whole station team to deliver a safe and welcoming experience for all of South Western Railway's customers.

About the Job:

You will oversee the Ticket Gates, ensuring all travellers have the correct ticket for their journey and helping them navigate the station safely. You will be the first point of contact for customers, providing assistance promptly and effectively.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Assist customers with ticketing queries and ensure they have the necessary information to travel confidently.
  • Ensure the safe operation of ticket gates, managing customer flow during busy periods.
  • Direct customers during disruptions, keeping them safe and informed.
  • Provide face-to-face updates on journey statuses while offering a personal touch to customer service.
  • Grow your knowledge about SWR services and key destinations, becoming a helpful resource for customers.
  • Take on various tasks to maintain station quality and safety standards.

You'll need to be:

Organised, efficient, and able to handle repetitive tasks under pressure. Excellent communication skills are essential, and a passion for customer service is a must. Flexibility in approach to tasks and willingness to adapt are key.

Working Pattern:

This role requires shift work, including weekends and evenings, with an average of 37 hours across 5 days per week. Shifts may include:

  • Sunday: 0715-1500 & 1445-2230
  • Monday to Thursday: 0615-1430 & 1415-2230
  • Friday & Saturday: 0615-1500 & 1445-2330
