About the team?
Saint Philips Marsh is home to the West Fleet's DMU and maintains a variety of other T&R including HSS and 08 Shunters. The team works to a tight exam regime and day/night servicing, providing a safe, clean, and prompt service delivery for Great Western Railway's customers.
About the job?
You will work within teams to support the Multi-Skilled Technicians, focusing on maintenance tasks primarily on the West Fleet DMUs, with a clear emphasis on safety, teamwork, and service delivery.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Assisting FO3 grade Engineers in servicing and maintaining rail vehicles
- Operating forklift driving
- Conducting battery maintenance
- Performing underframe train cleaning
- Ensuring rail vehicles are safe to move post-maintenance
- Coupling/uncoupling, shunting, and preparing rail vehicles when trained
- Presenting trains to customers in a correctly marshalled and fully prepared condition
You’ll need to be:
- Able to exchange information to solve problems and participate in decision-making
- Capable of creating and maintaining necessary safe conditions for work activities
- Actively participating in process improvements and safe operational flexibility
- Willing to work shifts, including nights and weekends
As a minimum, you will need to have:
- Strong adherence to safety standards at all times
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Successful completion of a safety-critical medical
- Passing a psychometric exam
- Evidence of an engineering background
- Experience working in an engineering environment
Additional Information:
- The successful candidate must reside within a 60-minute commute of the depot.
- If more than one applicant is successful, a reserve list will be created for roles that may arise within the next 6 months, potentially with different shift types.
- The successful candidate will undergo an online shunter assessment and must pass a safety-critical medical.
- Ability to travel to work within a maximum of 60 minutes using public transport is non-negotiable.
- This position involves permanent night shifts.
