Assistant Archivist

Isle of Wight Council is looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Archivist to work with Isle of Wight Council's small team to reduce Isle of Wight Council's cataloguing backlog and facilitate more of Isle of Wight Council's collections moving online. These newly accessible records will then need to be promoted to people of all ages and backgrounds.
Responsibilities
- Undertake a wide range of Collection Management tasks including accessioning and cataloguing material donated by individuals, businesses, and the local authority using Microsoft Excel.
- Critically evaluate legacy catalogue entries which are no longer fit for purpose.
- Support a team of cataloguing volunteers in reformatting existing catalogues.
- Upload all data to online catalogues and assess new ways to improve Isle of Wight Council's online offerings.
- Assist in Collections Care, including repacking collections as necessary.
- Gather environmental data in Isle of Wight Council's stores and ensure appropriate storage conditions for Isle of Wight Council's collections.
- Participate in activities across the Isle of Wight Council Heritage Service to raise the profile of Isle of Wight Council's collections.
- Support the Research and Searchroom Assistants to provide on-site and remote access to Isle of Wight Council's collections as required.
