Overview

The School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science (SPECS) is looking for two individuals to join as Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering to support the Civil Engineering & Built Environment portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Summary

Duration of Contract: Permanent

Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield

Salary Structure

  • Lecturer (UH7): £37,999 to £45,163 dependent on skills and experience.
  • Senior Lecturer (UH8): £45,163 to £56,921 dependent on skills and experience.

Annual Leave

35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of University of Hertfordshire's office between Christmas and New Year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake teaching and assessment in engineering and technology modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Support learning through the design and development of course materials, including online content.
  • Engage in tutorial, laboratory, and administrative activities.
  • Contribute actively to SPECS’ research and enterprise strategic plan.
  • Supervise postgraduate research projects and apply for external funding to support research and commercial activities.
  • For the Senior Lecturer role, undertake administrative duties assisting with programme management.
  • Provide leadership in research or commercial activities.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Experience within the domain of Civil Engineering either in Higher Education or the construction sector.
  • Proven experience of teaching or tutoring at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Demonstrable proficiency in English Language with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to develop module and programme level material.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and undertaking professional qualifications.
  • For Senior Lecturer, substantial experience in Civil Engineering is required.
  • Strong track record of research publications and/or industrial experience.

Qualifications Required

A degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or a related subject area is essential.

The Senior Lecturer role will require a Master’s degree and a relevant doctoral degree.
