About the Role
The Debt Management Team is a highly recognised service, having been nominated twice for the IRRV Most Improved Team of the Year Award.
The team is currently looking for experienced Court Officers to join this dynamic group. Responsibilities include:
- Effectively managing the processes involved in the collection of various Portfolios of Debt owed to the Council.
- Taking selected cases through the Court Processes, attending and presenting cases at County Court.
- Attending Magistrates Court Hearings for both Liability Order Hearings and Committal Means Enquiry Hearings.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:
- Confidence to manage difficult conversations.
- Knowledge of debt collection processes, ideally including Council Tax, Non Domestic Rates, and Sundry.
- Familiarity with the Money Claims on Line (MCOL) process.
- Understanding of County Court processes and methods of enforcement.
- Clear understanding of the Charging Order, Bankruptcy, and Committal processes.
- Full knowledge of the Thurrock Fair Debt Policy.
- Experience using negotiation skills and communicating with the public.
- Knowledge of the Means Enquiry process for Committal Hearings.
