Overview

Are you an HGV Technician looking for a new challenge? TXM Recruit Limited is working with an ever-growing transportation company based in Surrey looking for a Technician on a permanent basis. As an HGV Technician, you will be working day shifts Monday to Friday on a competitive salary but will be expected to be available if overtime is required, including weekends and bank holidays.

The HGV Technician/Mechanic is responsible for ensuring the safety and reliability of TXM Recruit Limited's fleet through comprehensive vehicle maintenance and repairs. This role involves:

  • Conducting routine vehicle maintenance to meet DVSA standards.
  • Diagnosing and resolving issues with various Heavy Goods Vehicles and equipment.
  • Preparing all vehicles for MOT inspections and regular six-weekly preventative maintenance checks.
  • Maintaining a fleet that consists of core waste vehicles, sweepers, food waste collection vehicles, and light commercial vans.

As an HGV Technician, your role will include various tasks such as:

  • Utilising advanced diagnostic tools to identify faults and execute effective repairs.
  • Dismantling and overhauling vehicle components to restore optimal functionality.
  • Maintaining vehicles and plant equipment to ensure efficient operation.
  • Using tablets and PDAs to complete and maintain documentation, including job cards and inspections.
  • Testing equipment and tools, monitoring workshop performance, and ensuring adherence to health and safety protocols.
  • Performing road tests on vehicles to confirm safety and assist with roadside breakdowns.

Competencies Required for an HGV Technician:

  • Proven experience in vehicle repairs, adhering to the highest safety and compliance standards.
  • Awareness of COSHH regulations and environmental best practices.
  • City & Guilds, IRTEC, or NVQ certification (desirable).
  • Category C HGV license (desirable).
  • Manual handling training (desirable).
  • Commitment to personal development, including IOSH Working Safely and abrasive wheel training (desirable).
