Overview

Derby Road Surgery has an opportunity for an enthusiastic, flexible care navigator, with strong customer service skills, to join our team on apart-time basis for 16 hours per week, 1pm - 6.30pm Monday & Wednesday and 1.30pm - 6.30pm Thursday.

Derby Road Surgery is part of Suffolk Primary Care, with 2 sites in the heart of Ipswich, with close travel links to the beautiful Suffolk countryside & coast. We have an established team with a strong focus on customer service & communication. We would love to hear from candidates with GP surgery experience although we would also like to hear from those that can show flexibility & a range of transferable skills.

In this essential front-line role, care navigators help patients to access the right services, assist with keeping health records accurate & up-to-date, & ensure that appointment bookings are well-managed.
The main responsibilities of the role include:
  • Provide comprehensive admin support for the general practice, acting as focal point for patients & staff
  • Receive, assist & direct patients to access the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient & effective way
  • Offer general assistance to the practice team
  • Project a positive and friendly image to patients & visitors, in person & on the phone
  • Facilitate effective communication between patients & members of the healthcare community
  • Handle patient complaints in accordance with practice protocols

About the Candidate
We are looking for a care navigator to join our busy practice team and help make a positive impact on our local community. We would welcome applications from organised, adaptable, and friendly individuals, who are keen to help us provide high levels of customer service and have the following attributes:
  • GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
  • Excellent communication skills, with a clear and polite telephone manner;
  • Ability to work in a polite, confidential and discreet manner, respecting patients at all times;
  • Experience of working with the general public, being sensitive and empathic in distressing situations;
  • Confidence to work as part of a team and ability to "think on your feet";
  • Strong IT and administration skills;
  • The successful candidate should be able to work calmly and professionally as part of a team. You should have the ability to multi-task. A strong command of written and spoken English with an excellent telephone manner is a must. Good time management skills and the ability to follow protocols and or instruction and attention to detail is essential.
  • Experience of working in primary care is desirable. 
Some flexibility is required, as you will sometimes need to work additional or alternative hours to cover for colleagues.
