Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an Associate Practitioner (AP) in the Cellular Pathology Department. This role is critical in processing over 21,000 specimens annually, contributing significantly to the Trust's cancer diagnostics service.
Job Summary
The successful candidate will possess a positive attitude and a willingness to learn new skills. Previous laboratory experience is ideal, but training will be provided. The responsibilities include:
- Receiving and processing patient samples
- Data entry
- Equipment operation and maintenance
- Managing laboratory waste disposal
- Microtomy
Qualifications and Requirements
Candidates should have:
- GCSEs in Science, Maths, and English, and/or NVQ level 3 or equivalent
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Physical fitness to handle lifting and other tasks
Main Duties
As an Associate Practitioner, you will be responsible for:
- Supporting a high-quality Cellular Pathology service
- Collaborating with Biomedical Support workers
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards
- Meeting departmental and trust KPIs
- Maintaining health and safety standards
- Complying with clinical governance and risk management policies
- Assisting with training and education activities
