The Role
The Able Seaman is responsible for ensuring safety, security, pollution prevention, and efficient ship operation.
Principal Responsibilities
- Carry out all orders safely and efficiently
- Maintain equipment and vessel structures
- Perform duties as Coxswain or workboat crew member
- Assist deck officers in cargo operations
- Operate counter pollution equipment
- Perform Helmsman duties
- Participate in mooring and anchoring tasks
- Assist Engineering staff in maintenance
- Handle ship operational tasks, such as mooring work
- Undertake necessary training to meet regulations

- STCW Basic Fire Prevention and Firefighting
- STCW Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities
- STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats
