Band 6 Clinical Support Pharmacist

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is looking for enthusiastic clinical pharmacists who can work as part of a team and are flexible regarding working practices. You will be a highly motivated individual with good communication skills and a desire to use your knowledge, skills and experience to improve patient care and influence healthcare professionals in the best use of medicines. The successful candidate will deliver a quality ward-based clinical pharmacy service with support and guidance from University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust's friendly team.
You will undertake 3-month rotations through a variety of core clinical specialties to develop the foundation clinical skills and knowledge required to build a career within the NHS and progress to band 7. UHB is one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country, with posts available at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, and Good Hope Hospital. Post holders based at Heartlands or Good Hope will also have the opportunity to undertake a rotation at Solihull Hospital.
You will be encouraged to undertake a clinical diploma or equivalent RPS Foundation pathway and subsequently a non-medical prescribing qualification. Training and support will be provided.
Main duties of the job
- Using University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust's advanced electronic patient record and prescription tool PICs, you will work alongside University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust's technical team to review medicines reconciliations, optimise patient's medications, and verify discharge prescriptions.
- You will provide an extended service to the Acute Medical Unit as part of a larger clinical team to support medicines reconciliation at the point of admission ensuring excellent care to patients admitted to UHB.
- You will work as the Responsible Pharmacist in University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust's main dispensaries, supporting the workflow and clinically screening clinic charts from a wide variety of specialties.
- This post holder will work weekends and bank holidays as per rotas, as well as a late-night service in University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust's dispensaries and providing on-call services with support from a more experienced pharmacist.
