Job Purpose

As a barista for a well-known Glasgow brand, you will cover all elements of the operation, focusing on front of house customer service and the presentation and delivery of the food offering. Shift and Schedule

This full-time role has a working pattern of 37.5 hours per week over 39 weeks of the year, aligning with the University term dates. Flexibility may be required by mutual agreement, with some weekend and public holiday working.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and provision of all food and drinks, ensuring compliance with Food Safety Policy standards.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of the menu and special offers to provide relevant information to customers.
  • Ensure hygiene, cleanliness, and tidiness of catering and café areas while adhering to Health and Safety policies.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and a personalized service experience that exceeds expectations.
  • Handle cash responsibly in line with cash handling procedures.
  • Liaise with customers and colleagues to ensure efficient running of the department.
  • Assist in controlling food and non-food items, ensuring compliance with storage and stock procedures.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and flexible working approach to meet operational demands.
  • Meet all legislative and policy requirements, including COSHH.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Essential Knowledge/Qualifications:

  • Ability to demonstrate competencies for this role with relevant knowledge and skills.
  • Food Safety Level 1 (to be completed within the first week) followed by Level 2 (within the first 3 months).
  • Good working knowledge of Food Safety and Health and Safety Awareness.

Desirable Knowledge:

  • Food Safety Level 2
  • Allergen Awareness

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Basic computer skills and experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Adaptable and flexible approach to work.
  • Strong organizational and customer service skills.
  • Committed and enthusiastic team player.
  • Strong understanding of coffee and latte art.

Essential Experience:

  • Demonstrable previous experience in a customer-facing environment.
  • Experience working independently and as part of a team.
  • Previous experience operating a till system.

Terms & Conditions

Salary is £12.00 per hour. This full-time role offers a structured work pattern of 37.5 hours per week over 39 weeks, in line with University term dates. Flexibility may be required by mutual agreement.
