Dover Big Local's centres work collaboratively to provide essential services and support to residents of Dover.

Job Overview

Dover Big Local is seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Big Local Facilitator to engage with groups and promote participation in Dover Big Local's community hubs.

Purpose and Responsibilities

Hours: 24 hours per week Duration: Initial 1-year contract, extendable based on funding Responsible to: Operations and Hubs Manager and Projects and Partnerships Manager Office Base: Unit 18, Charlton Centre, Dover. Monday to Friday (occasional Saturdays and evenings may be required)

Scope of the Role

The Big Local Facilitator will facilitate groups and meetings, focusing on community needs. Key tasks include:

  • Creating and delivering Hub-based activities tailored to local community needs.
  • Conducting six face-to-face sessions per week, with at least one session aimed at outreach in the community.
  • Ensuring that the Dover Big Local hub is accessible and welcoming for all demographics.
  • Engaging the community and providing opportunities for individuals to be heard.
  • Supporting the recruitment and induction of volunteers.
  • Signposting individuals to other local services and fostering partnerships with local groups.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

This is a dynamic role, with duties evolving over time. Key responsibilities include:

  • Opening the hub and preparing for daily activities.
  • Welcoming visitors and providing information about services.
  • Data collection and administration tasks, including record-keeping and reporting.
  • Organising events and activities, including logistics like setting up tables and materials.
  • Closing the hub and ensuring it is secure at the end of the day.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Understanding of community engagement and working with vulnerable populations.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word/Excel).
