The Role

The specialist Child Protection Co-ordinator (CPC) plays a vital role in developing and managing child protection structures and processes to ensure the safety of children at risk of significant harm. This role is essential for the Local Authority to comply with legislative responsibilities while working collaboratively with partner agencies.

Accountabilities

  • Ensure safeguarding and wellbeing of all children in Essex according to relevant legislation and policies.
  • Create and implement policies and practices in compliance with legislation and internal procedures.
  • Chair and coordinate all Child Protection Conferences, ensuring timely delivery of Child Protection plans.
  • Provide a professional consultation service to Essex County Council staff and partner agencies.
  • Ensure the child’s voice is heard in all processes and maintain their best interests.
  • Promote effective partnership working with key agencies for integrated planning.
  • Contribute specialist knowledge to the Quality Assurance Service strategy and resource development.
  • Lead training on Child Protection risk assessment and wider safeguarding matters.
  • Monitor Child Protection plans between conferences, ensuring timely progression.
  • Integrate learning from serious case reviews into practice.

The Experience You Will Bring

Essential:

  • Social Work qualification (DipSW, CQSW, Degree) and registration with GSCC.
  • Significant experience in a statutory childcare setting, preferably at senior practitioner level.
  • Post-qualifying award in child/family work.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the safeguarding agenda and Allegations Management.

Desirable:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage workload and ensure effective performance.
  • Proven analytical skills to assess complex information and levels of risk.
  • Experience chairing complex inter-agency meetings.

This role requires mobility across Essex, necessitating a driving license and the ability to transport service users as needed.
