The Visitor and Security Services Department (VSS) works across the Museum to ensure The British Museum's visitors can make the most of their visit. Whether it is managing public safety, selling tickets to exhibitions, providing information on the Museum’s collection, or patrolling the Museum to make sure it is safe and secure, The British Museum's staff are focused on delivering an excellent experience for every visitor.

Key Responsibilities of the Control Room Officer Role:

• Ensuring the safety and security of the UK’s number one visitor attraction.
• Monitoring live security feeds and coordinating responses to incidents.
• Maintaining the Museum's Control Room technology.

What a Normal Day Might Look Like:

You will protect the Museum from the Control Room by monitoring fire and security systems, controlling radio channels, and coordinating responses to incidents. Attention to detail and the ability to make quick decisions are essential.

Skills and Experience Required:

• Excellent attention to detail and ability to remain vigilant over long periods.
• Able to apply security principles to various situations.
• A confident communicator able to provide clear information in emergencies.
• Experience in coordinating responses and controlling radio traffic.
• Able to write accurate incident reports.

Working Pattern: 4 days on, 4 days off (days and nights), 12 hours per shift.
