Overview

The Cabinet Office plays a vital role in supporting the independent public inquiry into the Government’s handling of the Coronavirus pandemic. In 2022, the Public Inquiry Response Unit (PIRU) was established to lead the Cabinet Office and No. 10’s response to the Inquiry. This role offers an exciting opportunity in a fast-paced environment within a friendly team.

Job Summary

PIRU commissions, coordinates, and supports work across the department to provide evidence and statements to support the Inquiry. The Inquiry's unprecedented scale and breadth makes this a fascinating area to work in. Over the past two years, PIRU has disclosed over 50,000 documents to the Inquiry and supported over 40 witnesses.

The unit provides excellent learning and development opportunities, benefiting members through formal training (e.g., apprenticeships) and informal development opportunities (such as attending Inquiry hearings in person).

Job Description

The Discovery, Review and Disclosure (DRD) team collaborates with various stakeholders to collate relevant evidence and ensure its review and disclosure in response to requests from the Inquiry. Cabinet Office seek 4 highly motivated Executive Officers for roles within the DRD team. Responsibilities will include:

  • Commissioning sensitivity checks on documents identified as relevant to the Public Inquiry.
  • Managing and maintaining products to track the journey of documents through the review and disclosure process.
  • Supporting searches for relevant documents and collaborating with Cabinet Office Business Units.
  • Ensuring documents the Public Inquiry wishes to publish have been fully reviewed.
  • Building excellent working relationships with stakeholders and legal teams.
  • Supporting the monitoring of Inquiry hearings.

  • An inquisitive nature and a desire to learn and share knowledge.

Essential Criteria

  • High organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple work streams.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Able to work in an ambiguous environment with continual change.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in responding to public inquiries.
  • Knowledge of information management processes.
  • CTC clearance or above.

Working Patterns
