Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse based on Ward 11 at York Hospital. The Band 6 role will be essential to support the development and implementation of ongoing improvement projects.

About Ward 11

Ward 11 is currently a 31-bedded ward with a Nursed Enhanced Unit, which contains 4 beds. Nurses can follow a nurse-led protocol to manage patients post-operatively with the support of the vascular medical team and peri-operative team. This ward serves as a hub for vascular patients and receives patients from Scarborough to Harrogate, both acutely and electively, alongside patients that are sent in from clinics across York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust's region.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high standard of patient-focused care in accordance with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Provide assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for patients, ensuring accurate written records are kept.
  • Communicate with patients and carers to ensure they have access to appropriate information.
  • Promote and maintain positive relationships between all staff involved in the care of the patient.
  • Act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct.
  • Undertake duties on different wards/departments as required by service demands.
  • Demonstrate personal responsibility for compliance with infection control policies and procedures.

Education and Training

The role is to consistently drive excellent clinical quality standards by providing visible clinical leadership to the team, supporting them in the delivery of high-quality, effective, and evidence-based care. Focus will be on patient experience, patient safety, and providing assurance that standards are met for every patient, every time.

This multifaceted role comprises clinical support to the junior team and running in collaboration with the current Band 6 and Band 7, working towards service improvement, clinical governance, and the ongoing professional development of their team.

Candidate Profile

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an experienced, highly motivated nurse who can provide clinical leadership to York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust's nursing team. The successful candidate must be committed to ensuring the delivery of safe, compassionate, high-quality care. They will have proven clinical, management, and teaching experience, and must have the ability to communicate and support their colleagues, York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust's patients, and their families/carers.
