Overview

As a Field Service Engineer based in Welwyn Garden City, your role is crucial in providing high-quality service to Equals One's customers while managing wheelchairs and associated equipment.

Job Purpose

Your main responsibility will be to ensure that Equals One's contractual service standards are met. Initially, you will undergo training in the workshop, where you will recondition wheelchair equipment and gain essential product knowledge. After completing your training, you will operate in the field, delivering, collecting, repairing, and servicing wheelchairs. The goal is to complete most jobs on a first-time fix basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver and collect wheelchairs from service users’ homes and NHS departments, adhering to the Company Infection Control Policy.
  • Service and repair wheelchairs in the field, aiming for a first-time fix.
  • Carefully complete paperwork for each job, ensuring all necessary information regarding parts used and actions taken is documented.
  • Utilize provided PPE as instructed.
  • Undertake out-of-hours responsibilities as rostered, once fully trained.
  • Comply with driving regulations and maintain a tidy and stocked vehicle.
  • Provide excellent customer service, maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Organize your workload efficiently and communicate with the Line Manager as needed.
  • Maintain and safeguard all tools and equipment provided by the Company.
  • Participate in all necessary training to enhance your skills for this role.

Qualifications

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Successful enhanced DBS check.
  • General workshop knowledge.
  • Basic electrical knowledge (12v/24v D.C. systems).
  • Experience in face-to-face customer contact.
  • Previous delivery driver experience.
  • Understanding of issues faced by people with disabilities.
  • Flexible approach to changing working conditions.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to relay instructions clearly.
  • Physical ability to handle equipment safely.

Physical Demands

Be prepared to move and handle equipment, stand at a bench, kneel or crouch in confined spaces, and use ramps and other moving equipment as necessary.

Challenges

The role requires flexibility to respond to changing priorities and commitment to available overtime for emergency responses.
