Overview

HaLo PCN has an exciting opportunity for a GP Assistant ‘Senior Clinical Administrator’ (SCA) to join our busy practice support team, on a part-time basis for 24 - 30 hours per week.

The main purpose of the role is to work as part of the clinical team in providing administrative support to clinicians in varying and important aspects of patient care. This is a fast-moving, exciting and emerging role with priorities changing constantly. 

The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Be a point of contact for fellow health professionals;
  • Be the first point of contact in the event of patient death. Liaising with the family, funeral directors & coroner, if required. Ensuring paperwork is processed in a timely manner & families are supported through the process;
  • Liaise with the Integrated Urgent Care Hub based at St Albans City hospital. Work with the GP team to identify patients that need to be seen face-to-face & ensure a timely referral is made to their service;
  • Produce community referrals for patients;
  • Assist in the completion and submission of safeguarding paperwork;
  • Administer fit notes;
  • Check blood pressure results submitted by patients, calculate averages, assess against clinical guidelines, alerting clinicians where readings are out of tolerance;
  • Support clinicians in requesting laboratory tests to monitor ongoing conditions & medications;
  • Undertake any other reasonable work when requested to do so by clinicians and the practice business manager;
  • Assist clinicians in the administrative tasks required for clinical care.
  • Facilitate the admin process of gathering information, completing & submitting documents on behalf of the GP & other clinicians.

  • Quick thinking with high level of attention to detail;
  • Happy to deal with challenging situations and feel confident to make decisions within set parameters;

  • Excellent communicators able to work in a confidential and discreet manner;
  • Able to "think on their feet" in a busy working environment;
  • Able to multi-task, change focus at short notice and work hard, when under pressure;
  • Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, as well as comfortable working independently;
  • A sense of humour and strong teamwork ethic are key.

Some flexibility is required as you will sometimes need to work additional or alternative hours to cover for colleagues.

About Us
HaLo PCN is a thriving network of 2 GP practices in the St Albans area. With over 30,000 patients between them, the PCN is led by our clinical director and supported by our PCN manager, working in partnership with our practice managers. 
 
HaLo Primary Care Network (PCN) comprises of Harvey Group Practice and The Lodge Health Partnership. PCNs are required organisational bodies across the NHS in England. Though this SCA role will be focussed on activities at Harvey Group Practice, there will also be training opportunities, support and potential for occasional cross-cover with SCA colleagues who work at The Lodge Health Partnership. SCAs are a new role within the NHS categorised as ‘GP Assistants’. The responsibility for the SCA role will be directed towards the patients and services within Harvey Group Practice.
