Grounds Maintenance Operative / Gardener

Overview

Job Description: Settle Town Council is seeking a self-motivated and skilled Grounds Maintenance Operative / Gardener to maintain and enhance public spaces across Settle.

Key Responsibilities

• Grounds Maintenance: Upkeep of play areas, hedge trimming, weed control, pruning, landscaping, watering planters, and weekly inspections of play area equipment.
• General Maintenance: Litter picking, minor repairs to outdoor furniture, maintenance at allotment sites, and graffiti removal.
• Equipment Care: Safely operate and maintain gardening tools and machinery.
• Seasonal Work: Includes winter gritting, leaf clearance, holiday relief cover, and assistance with Council managed events.

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience in DIY, grounds maintenance, gardening, or landscaping.
• Ability to operate gardening machinery.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Strong work ethic with attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Physically fit to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Own a vehicle for transporting equipment.

Desirable Skills

• Knowledge of health & safety procedures.
• Experience with upkeep of recreational grounds.
• Basic computer skills.
