Overview

The Service & Team: This role will be working in the Employment Strategy Team within the People and Change Function.

The Role: Cornwall Council is committed to delivering outstanding services for supporting stable and inclusive communities. Cornwall Council's Employment Strategy Team advises the Council’s managers on the development and improvement of its employment and reward framework and trade union relations. Cornwall Council's aim is to create a framework, guidance, and employee relations environment which fosters high employee engagement and performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Contributing to people and workforce plans including people strategy and service plan.
  • Leading role in working with the Council’s trade unions.
  • Development and maintenance of the Council’s pay and reward frameworks.
  • Development and implementation of the Council’s terms and conditions including local collective bargaining.
  • Improvement and maintenance of employee benefits.
  • Improvement of employment policy and guidance.
  • Maintenance and development of employee pension schemes.
  • Job evaluation and development of associated processes.

Working within a small team, the HR Advisor coordinates and contributes to the Council’s joint working, consultation, and negotiation with trade unions. This role spans a variety of HR specialist functions, providing a great opportunity for learning and development.

Working Pattern: Applications are welcome from individuals for this role, which is to cover maternity leave for approximately 9 months.

What You’ll Need to Succeed: Highly self-motivated with the ability to work proactively and autonomously. Required skills include:

  • CIPD or equivalent experience or developing towards.
  • Knowledge of employment legislation, regulations, and best practices.
  • Analytical, creativity, and good collaborative skills.
  • Advanced communication skills – both oral and written.
