Overview

Suffolk County Council is seeking a dynamic and empathetic Housing Advisor to join Suffolk County Council's Children's and Young People Services team at Suffolk County Council. As part of the Housing Development team, you will provide expert guidance to professionals working with young people facing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless.

Your Role and Responsibilities

You will:

  • Provide housing advice and assistance to professionals/caseworkers in line with current legislation and the organisation's policy, ensuring a professional, sensitive, and confidential service.
  • Ensure proactive compliance with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
  • Understand local housing authorities' obligations under the act to prevent homelessness through effective partnership working, negotiating, and providing accurate advice.
  • Support professionals/caseworkers working with young people in need of housing and assist in retaining existing accommodation or advising on alternative housing options.
  • Develop personalised housing plans for young individuals threatened with or experiencing homelessness.

You Will Need

  • Awareness of the 1996 Housing Act and the 2017 Homelessness Reduction Act and its implementation.
  • Familiarity with the 1989 Children's Act and the 200 Children Leaving Care Act.
  • Knowledge of issues related to homelessness prevention, including employment and relationship matters.
  • Previous experience in providing housing advice and applying homelessness legislation.
