The Role
The Library at the University of London is seeking a part-time Library Assistant to work 17.5 hours per week on a temporary one-year contract. The role involves collaboration with another library assistant to start as soon as possible.
Key Responsibilities:
- Shelving and tidying assigned areas of the library.
- Answering basic enquiries from library users, such as directing them to resources.
- Assisting in moving loaded trolleys to designated areas.
- Labeling new acquisitions and participating in ongoing conservation activities.
- Potentially assisting at the library desk and in other areas as needed.
This position requires physical capability, including lifting, bending, and pushing loaded trolleys, sometimes in dusty areas.
Candidates must coordinate their hours with the other library assistant's timetable.
Requirements:
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to learn library classification schemes.
- Good communication skills and a pleasant demeanor when interacting with library users.
- Willingness to learn to use library software effectively.
