The Role

Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels (SSRS) is a project aimed at delivering essential protection measures to secure the long-term future of red squirrels in Scotland. The NE Community Outreach Officer will play a crucial role in implementing a targeted grey squirrel monitoring and control program aimed at eradicating grey squirrels in Aberdeen.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and coordinate the team’s new feeder box loan scheme.
  • Recruit and support volunteers and landowners for rapid response monitoring.
  • Expand and deliver the team’s strategic trap loan and monitoring schemes.
  • Raise public awareness and support for the Aberdeen eradication project.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be committed to the complete eradication of invasive grey squirrels from Aberdeen, maintaining motivation in challenging circumstances.
  • Enjoy working as part of a diverse and dynamic team and collaborating with volunteers, landowners, and the public.
  • Understand the scientific method and work confidently to scientific protocols.
  • Be adaptable and willing to learn new skills while supporting innovative methods for urban eradication.
