About the Role

Two Rivers Medical Centre is looking to welcome an experienced and qualified phlebotomist into our busy practice, to support our nursing team. This role is offered on a part-time basis, for 22.5 hours a week.

Working under the direction of the lead nurse and as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team, the post-holder will be responsible for performing tasks to include:

  • Working strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols to assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care;
  • Collecting samples of blood in accordance with training and procedures, ensuring correct storage, labelling, recording and efficient dispatching of samples;
  • Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible, and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample;
  • Checking patient identification against GP or nurse request, and confirming with the patient whenever possible;
  • Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff;
  • Notifying the GP of any significant patient issues;
  • Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team.

About the Candidate

You will have the following skills and qualifications:
  • Minimum of a Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent qualification or experience;
  • Relevant qualification and clinical knowledge and skills in venepuncture;
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting, ideally within primary care;
  • Ability to record accurate clinical notes;
  • Consistently confidential, compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, and to understand the needs of the patient;
  • Strength in problem-solving, with the ability to process information accurately and effectively, interpreting data as required;
  • Flexibility and an adaptable approach;
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
