Description

The Lewisham Community Wellbeing Hub provides timely, targeted support to help people across the diverse communities in Lewisham manage their mental health. Together for Mental Wellbeing's aim is to equip individuals with the tools, resources, and links to local services to enhance their wellbeing and resilience through the support of Together for Mental Wellbeing's experienced staff team.

This service is open to anyone over 18 who resides in the London Borough of Lewisham, has faced mental health challenges, and wishes to improve their wellbeing. Together for Mental Wellbeing deliver time-limited interventions that encourage residents to develop self-care practices, maintain their wellbeing, and engage with their community.

About this Role

As a Peer Support Volunteer, your lived experience of mental distress will be central to your role. You will provide empathy and support to those experiencing similar challenges, sharing your experiences in a manner that inspires hope. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Collaborating with peer support volunteers, coordinators, and service users to plan activities that promote positive wellbeing.
  • Facilitating peer support and self-management groups.
  • Identifying and signposting to local services and activities.
  • Providing support to individuals transitioning from using the service.
  • Contributing to regular supervision and team meetings.
  • Engaging with service users and peers to enhance peer support services.

Together for Mental Wellbeing welcome your suggestions on how to provide effective peer support, drawing on your experiences to assist others. Training and support will be provided to enhance your capabilities in this role.

  • Personal experience with mental distress or using mental health services.
  • A passion for empowering individuals facing mental health challenges.
  • Strong communication and engagement skills.
  • Excellent active listening and interpersonal abilities.
  • Problem-solving skills and resourcefulness in supporting others.
  • A commitment to confidentiality and sensitivity in handling inquiries.
  • A willingness to engage in ongoing learning and self-reflection.

What You Can Expect

As a Peer Support Volunteer, you will receive regular supervision and support from your Peer Support Coordinator. They will assist you with any questions and guide your development in this role. Additionally, you will have access to training and ongoing development opportunities, including health and wellbeing support from trained professionals.

All reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred while performing your role will be reimbursed.
