Role: Reporting to the Head Teacher with a dotted line to the Kedleston Group Development and Estates Manager, the post holder will be responsible for a wide range of duties connected with the upkeep of the fabric and grounds of the site together with supporting the daily operational needs of the school.
The post holder will:
- Ensure proactive and reactive maintenance is delivered in a timely manner, liaising with the Group Estates team as needed.
- Be responsible for the security of the site.
- Ensure the school is kept clean.
- Work independently using their own initiative to overcome problems.
- Assist in monitoring and testing building systems to ensure regulatory compliance (training provided).
- Undertake driving duties to assist in site logistics.
- Adhere to good safeguarding procedures and practices.
- Support site teams at other Fernways schools as required.
- Use the Group’s Parago system to manage site maintenance and complete compliance checks.
Key responsibilities include:
- Security tasks, lighting and heating maintenance.
- Internal maintenance such as PAT Testing.
- External maintenance including inspecting fences, drains, and gutters.
- Maintaining site stores.
Emergencies:
- Ensure safe access to the school and classrooms in emergencies such as snow, ice, or flooding.
- Respond to bursts, leaks, floods, fires, and breakages promptly.
- Address electrical and gas supply emergencies, ensuring safety measures are in place.
- Act as an emergency first aider (training provided).
Health and Safety:
- Attend periodic Health & Safety Training sessions.
- Perform duties in line with health and safety requirements.
- Report serious hazards to the Head Teacher or Group H&S Manager.
- Organise routine testing of fire, emergency lighting, and water systems.
- Use cleaning and maintenance substances in line with COSHH requirements.
School Vehicles:
- Conduct weekly maintenance and safety checks of school vehicles.
- Perform weekly tyre pressure checks.
- Report any defects to the Head Teacher.
- Fuel vehicles as necessary.
- Carry out driving duties as required by the school.
Miscellaneous:
- Address enquiries from staff, students, parents, tradespeople, and emergency services.
- Attend relevant training as directed by the school.
- Carry out additional duties as required.
