About the role

Do you have a desire to gain experience in supporting vulnerable adults? As a Volunteer Advocate, you will support Rethink Mental Illness's Camden and Islington Integrated Advocacy Service, providing non-statutory advocacy to service users, especially those with learning disabilities and Autism.

You will work remotely but may need to travel across the area. Ideally, you should be able to commit half a day per week to volunteering. Training and regular supervision will be provided.

What you will be doing as a Volunteer Advocate

  • Support service users in Camden and Islington.
  • Ensure that vulnerable people have a voice.
  • Promote the independence of service users.
  • Participate in meetings to represent service users.
  • Assist in writing letters for and with service users.
  • Manage a caseload of 4-5 cases at any one time.

What will make you a great fit for this role?

  • Experience supporting vulnerable groups is a plus.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to empathize and ask sensitive questions.
  • Experience or knowledge of mental health and social care issues.
  • Comfortable seeking help and support when needed.
