About the role

As a Volunteer Advocate, you will support Rethink Mental Illness's Camden and Islington Integrated Advocacy Service in the London Boroughs of Camden and Islington. You will provide a non-statutory advocacy service to service users with learning disabilities and Autism.

You will be based at home but will need to travel across the area to complete your role. Ideally, you can commit half a day per week to volunteering.

You will receive training and regular supervision to ensure you feel confident in your role.

About the service

Rethink Mental Illness's service works with vulnerable people across Camden and Islington to provide one-to-one advocacy. You will raise the voice of the vulnerable to ensure that their views are considered in decisions about them.

Camden and Islington are diverse areas, and Rethink Mental Illness seek volunteers who reflect the communities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support service users to provide a non-statutory advocacy service.
  • Ensure that vulnerable people have a voice and are heard.
  • Promote the independence of service users.
  • Participate in meetings to advocate for service users.
  • Assist with writing letters for service users.
  • Manage a caseload of 4-5 cases at any one time.
