Overview

The Southwark Community Sanctuary is a crisis space open to anyone over the age of 18. Operated by Together for Mental Wellbeing, Together for Mental Wellbeing's services are free for Southwark residents or those registered with a Southwark GP. Commissioned by South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, Together for Mental Wellbeing provide a self-referral service for individuals experiencing mental distress.

Together for Mental Wellbeing offer support in-person, online, or over the phone, with face-to-face sessions available Monday to Friday from 5pm to 11pm, and weekends and bank holidays from 1pm to 11pm. Peer support volunteers with personal lived experience of mental distress play a vital role in Together for Mental Wellbeing's services.

Description

As a Peer Supporter, your lived experience will guide your role, enabling you to empathize with others facing similar challenges. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing one-to-one sessions to help individuals set goals and develop action plans.
  • Facilitating group peer support sessions.
  • Identifying and signposting local services.
  • Assisting individuals in transitioning from Together for Mental Wellbeing's services.
  • Offering emotional and practical support during appointments.
  • Supporting less experienced peers and contributing to team meetings.

Training and ongoing support will be available to help you thrive in this role. Together for Mental Wellbeing encourage you to share your insights on enhancing peer support based on your experiences.

Who are Together for Mental Wellbeing looking for?

  • Experience of mental distress and/or mental health services.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for empowering others and promoting peer support.
  • Ability to listen actively and empathetically.
  • Resourceful problem-solving skills.
