An exciting opportunity has arisen for the challenging and rewarding role of Ward Sister / Charge Nurse on Ward D8 - Spinal Ward at the Queens Medical Centre Campus of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, sitting within the Division of Surgery. Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trusts is seeking an individual who can drive high standards of patient-centred care in a challenging environment whilst being approachable and proactive to the needs of patients and staff.

D8 is a busy spinal ward that provides excellent nursing care to patients from a large area of the East Midlands. The ward has a high profile within the Surgical Division, having a track record of developing innovative nursing practice initiatives and a reputation for forward thinking.

Main Duties of the Job

As a Ward Sister/Charge Nurse, your responsibilities will include:

  • 24-hour responsibility for managing staff and budgets.
  • Ensuring that the standards and quality of care given are maintained to a high standard, including hotel service provision and the environment in which care is delivered.
  • Involvement of patients and users in their care and providing evidence that their feedback is utilized to maintain standards or implement improvements.
  • Providing regular direct clinical care while supporting non-clinical governance and facilitating the modernisation of patient services.
  • Administering treatments as a member of the clinical team and ensuring standards are maintained, evaluated, and improved where necessary.
  • Other duties as reasonably required.

Person Specification

Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • Current level one NMC registration.
  • Degree in health/nursing related studies.
  • Relevant post-basic study related to specialty.
  • Teaching & Assessing/Mentoring Qualification.
  • Formal leadership and management training.

Desirable

  • Research training/experience.
  • Completion of local competency packages.
  • Continuing professional development/reflective profile.

Experience

Essential

  • Post registration experience including management/leadership experience.
  • Supervision of non-registered staff and students.
  • Evidence of ability to mentor.
  • Ability to lead change and new ways of working.

Desirable

  • Experience of audit/research.
  • Formal teaching of staff groups.
  • Clinical experience within the specialty.
