Job Summary
As a Young Persons Mentor, you will support, motivate, and guide children and young people, including gifted and talented learners, to help them overcome barriers preventing them from achieving their full potential. You will work closely with the Team Manager, Curriculum Lead, and other staff to identify the needs of individuals requiring assistance and plan how to support them.
Barriers to Learning may include:
- Abuse
- Challenging Behaviour

- Mental Health Challenges
- Persistent Absence and Truancy
- Punctuality Issues
You may work with children or young people on a one-to-one basis or in small or larger groups, prioritizing learners who need the most help, especially those experiencing multiple disadvantages. Although your base will predominantly be Connections 2 Independence's education setting, you will have various duties, including working with families and the wider community. In some cases, Young Persons Mentors work in offender learning and may also engage with adult learners.
Within Connections 2 Independence's setting, you will support each young person in participating in weekly practical skills, which will include baking and cooking workshops, and budgeting tasks that interlink directly with their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). A timetable will be designed directly with Connections 2 Independence's young people to outline the support provided and demonstrate clear expectations for outstanding and completed tasks, helping them achieve their educational outcomes.
Main Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safeguarding of young people while maintaining high professional standards.
- Assist in carrying out specified activities to meet the needs of Connections 2 Independence's children and young people.
- Engage and support young people with their weekly timetable as part of their Connections 2 Independence journey.
- Participate in training events and team meetings as required.
- Complete monthly reports for allocated young people and manage their appointments and timetables.
- Work cooperatively with staff from various agencies to develop working partnerships.
- Promote a positive image of C2I through professional conduct.
- Complete mandatory training and personal development activities as identified with your Curriculum Coordinator.
Shift and Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Overtime available
- Weekend availability required
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 1 year experience as a Support Worker.
- Driving Licence required.
